Morning Circle at PreschoolThis video was really interesting. I really liked how the teacher involved all of the students by having them "hi-five" their neighbour and including the child in the supportive chair. The way that the teacher was able to maintain the entirety of the pre-school class is really impressive. How the teacher taught her class using songs I think offers a very effective response, as kids remember and enjoy music while some other method like rhyme or repetition wouldn't be nearly as effective or fun.
It kind of annoys me how she calls her students "friends", and I think it might instil a lack of respect for the teacher. I really like how she uses lots of adjectives and she uses "big" words like "temperature" (13.20) and then explains them as she uses them. She also uses problemitizing asking her students how they know it's hot outside (13.40), and helps them solve the problem by asking them what they wear when it's hot and what they are wearing. |

I really liked this video of a preschool music class. I think the teacher is very engaging to his young audience and is very intuitive in what his class is responding to and what they aren't enjoying.
I think it was really smart to get all of his students energy out before the actual lesson by that dancing/call-and-answer, that way he could easier maintain their attention, particularly a class this young. I think he did a good job of integrating music into everything in his lesson, like when he is handing out instruments (5.0) he's singing and engaging his students in order to retain their attention. He taught the basics of music (like rhythm) through fun games like the "hands and knees" song in the beginning, and the nonsense singing warm up. |
